The weekend of July 11/12 at el mirage dry lake
Something new we’re pretty damn excited about, drag racing back on the lake for the first time in 70+ years. I’ve been an SCTA member for a few decades now, running a car off and on when time/money allows, through that was able to form some great friendships and one of those has been with Bill Lattin, multi time SCTA President, multi record holder and general historian/collector of all things vintage hot rod and racing. Between Bill and the rpm crew we’ve been bouncing the idea of some vintage races involving the SCTA around for awhile, well Bill knows the ins and outs better than anyone and a formal proposal was written up and made it through all proper channels and now we’re happy to say RPM will be teaming up with SCTA to bring some side by side racing back to the lakebed.
Rules will be basically be the same as RPM Nationals at the ranch, 1936 and older cars powered by flatheads and bangers, representing a mid 50’s or older build style. Races will be heads up, flag drop, 1/8 mile drags on a hard pack section of the lakebed.
Everything is in the early stages but looks like we (RPM Nationals) will be handling the race entries/submissions with the payment once approved going through SCTA, more info on that as we get the details figured out, will get a page going on the RPM website in the near future.
Race submissions will open late April once we get through the race at Barona and have the time to be bombarded with new emails… for now be sure to follow this page and SCTA for more updates.
